How do you a hire for a client if we are yet to agree on the ideal candidate? This question was rankling in my mind ever since I returned from my big meeting with Cheers and Celebrations, a leading player in the gifts and greeting cards industry, this morning.

The crux of the meeting was this. Cheers and Celebrations was looking to hire a new CEO. Now, most of their employees had grown with the company and had been around for decades. "We need a new pair of eyes to come and change things around here," the founder told us. His second requirement - "We are looking for someone who can double our revenue."

I woke up feeling surprisingly upbeat for a Monday. Whatever the day had in store for me, bring it on! There weren't a whole lot of mails when I switched on my laptop, so I'm guessing my clients had a work-free weekend as well. “Do you not send your candidates the JD before sending them to the interview? Why do they know nothing about the job they are interviewing for? Suyash came by today, and he didn’t even know about the role and responsibilities, properly.”

Fridays are relatively relaxed for me. All my clients are in a hurry to leave and kick off the weekend. I was also beginning to enter into party mode - it was my best friend, Jyotika’s birthday this  Sunday, and she was throwing a lavish bash. I could already feel my thoughts drifting - “Do I have something in my closet that I can wear or do I need to go shopping? Maybe I should go shopping. There’s always a remote chance that I could meet someone there. Hmmm…”

The sound of my email notification brought me crashing back to reality. In a departure from the usual laidback Friday routine, one of our premier clients (one of the biggest audit firms in the world) had asked us to send at least two profiles on priority....
